A further 120 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK.

The death toll in hospitals, care homes and the wider community has now reached 46,119 people had died as of 5pm on Thursday, according to Government figures.

But figures from the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 56,400 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Friday, there had been a further 880 lab-confirmed cases.

Overall, a total of 303,181 cases have been confirmed.

The Government figures differ from the hospital numbers released separately by devolved authorities.

NHS England said nine people have died in hospitals in England after testing positive for Covid-19.

There were four deaths in the north east and Yorkshire, two in the north west, and two in the south east.

One death was recorded in the Midlands, while London and the east of England recorded no new deaths.

Patients were aged between 73 and 92 years old and one, aged 75, had no known underlying health conditions.

Another five deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

It brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,338.

Elsewhere, a further four people have died in Wales after testing positive, taking the total number of deaths in the country to 1,560.

Public Health Wales number of cases in increased by 26, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,258.

Meanwhile, no deaths were registered of people in Scotland who tested positive for the virus for the 15th day in a row, with the total remaining at 2,491.

There have been 30 new cases recorded in the country in the past 24 hours, according to Scottish Government statistics.

No new deaths have been recorded in Northern Ireland, leaving the total in the region at 556, according to official figures.

Ten more positive cases of coronavirus have been recorded, the Department of Health said, bringing the total number of people who have been infected is 5,948.
